Our Milestones

Our petrochemical business produces a diverse palette of Olefins (ethylene, propylene, py-gas and mixed C4), Polyolefins (polyethylene and polypropylene), Styrene monomer and Butadiene including by-products, through CAP, the largest and only integrated petrochemical company in Indonesia. CAP’s plant is strategically located in Ciwandan, Cilegon, Banten Province, providing convenient access to its key customers and access to a deep water port.

It Begins

Barito Pacific was founded by Prajogo Pangestu

1979

The Company listed its shares at the IDX (previously known as Jakarta and Surabaya Stock Exchange).

1993

The Company acquired a petrochemical producer in Indonesia, Chandra Asri.

2007

The Company acquired PT Tri Polyta Indonesia Tbk.

It Begins

  • PT Chandra Asri and PT Tri Polyta Indonesia Tbk transformed into PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (“Chandra Asri”).
  • Chandra Asri’s consistent performance has drawn global investors. SCG Chemical Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Siam Cement Group, has become a 30% shareholder in Chandra Asri.

2011

  • Chandra Asri began the operations of the Butadiene facility with a capacity of 100KTA.
  • Chandra Asri formed a strategic relationship with Compagnie Financiere Michelin (“Michelin”) to establish PT Synthetic Rubber Indonesia (“SRI”).

2013

  • Chandra Asri completed the US$380 million expansion of its Naphta Cracker, increasing its output capacity to 860KTA.
  • The Company’s major participation in the energy sector has grown over time, as seen by many company initiatives.

2015

  • In April, Star Energy bought 2 (two) Geothermal Power Plants (“PLTP”) from Chevron subsidiary, namely PLTP Salak and PLTP Darajat.
  • Indo Raya Tenaga/IRT and PLN signed a conditional Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for Java 9 and 10 in June.
  • Indo Raya Tenaga/IRT, in collaboration with Indonesia Power, constructed the Java 9 and 10 Steam-Electric Power Stations, each having a capacity of 2x1,000 MW with ultra-supercritical technology. This power plant contributes to cost savings by reducing fuel use by up to 20% per kWh, while reducing carbon emissions proportionately.

It Begins

  • In June 2018, the Company finalized the acquisition of Star Energy.
  • Chandra Asri increased its Butadiene plant production capacity to 137KTA.
  • The Company successfully raised a value equivalent to Rp8.9 trillion or US$619 million through the Limited Public Offering II.
  • PT Synthetic Rubber Indonesia began operations by creating synthetic rubber as a raw material for high performance tires with a capacity of 120KTA.
  • The Company entered into a PPA with PLN to collaborate on the Java 9 and 10 projects.

2018

The new Polyethylene plant at Chandra Asri commenced operations with a capacity of 400 KTA, along with the expansion of Polypropylene plant from 480KTA to 590KTA.

2019

  • Chandra Asri has begun its operations at its new MTBE (Methyl Tert-butyl Ether) and B1 (Butene-1) facilities.
  • Chandra Asri completed the Enclosed Ground Flare (EGF) project and began work on the project Java 9 and 10.

2020

  • Chandra Asri announced Thaioil, the flagship refinery of PTT Public Company Limited, has been chosen as the strategic investor to support  the development of the second petrochemical complex (CAP2).
  • Chandra Asri completed the issuance of new shares to increase capital (rights issue) of US$1.1 billion or around Rp15.5 trillion. This corporate  action becomes one of the largest right issue ever held in the IDX so far.
